A Christmas tree headed for the U.S. Capitol will make a stop at Addams Elementary School on its way from northern California to Washington, D.C. Officials will make a special presentation to Addams for hosting a tree stop.

The 84-foot white fir was harvested on the Six Rivers National Forest near Eureka on Oct. 25 and then began a 3,300-mile journey. Once delivered on Nov. 19 to the west lawn of the U.S. Capitol, it will be decorated with handmade ornaments and tree skirts created by Californians and lit in early December. Those ornaments will include ones made by Addams students.

“We are honored that our very own Addams Elementary is a stop on the U.S. Capitol Christmas tree tour. It’s special to be part of this magnificent tree’s journey to beautify our nation’s Capitol,” said Superintendent Bob Nelson.
