What:  Kick-off of Steve’s Scholars program at Tehipite Middle School

Media interested in attending should RSVPto communications@fresnounified.org by 10 a.m. Sept. 18. A Microsoft Teams invite will be sent to that individual’s email prior to the virtual event.

Tehipite Middle School will hold a virtual assembly to introduce seventh graders to the Steve’s Scholars program. The assembly will include Superintendent Bob Nelson as a keynote speaker and messages from Francine and Murray Farber, founders of Steve’s Scholars. Tehipite held an event on Sept. 15 to award pins to eighth graders in the Steve’s Scholars program.

The Farbers launched the Steve’s Scholars scholarship program in 2012 in memory of their son, Steven. The purpose of Steve’s Scholars is to strengthen Tehipite students’ commitment to stay in school and remain on track to graduate. Tehipite students are eligible for a $1,000 scholarship for two years when they meet the following four requirements:

  • Maintain a cumulative 95% attendance record
  • Complete A-G course requirements for college
  • Have a cumulative GPA of at least 3.0
  • Participate in community service activities
