Social-Emotional Support for Students

Current Available Support for Students

School Psychologist
The school psychologist plays an important role in helping students become successful in high school.  The school psychologist provides a variety of services such as individual counseling, psycho-educational evaluations, crisis counseling, teacher and parent consultations, behavioral evaluations and improvement plans, and prevention and intervention services.  School Psychologist Miguel Sanchez can be reached on campus at x31081, and School Psychologist Alicia Alandt can be reached Mondays and Fridays at x35362.

School Social Worker
Roosevelt High School has a full-time School Social Worker, who has a Masters in Social Work with a Pupil Personnel Services (PPS) Credential.  Our School Social Worker, Karina Gomez, will be providing multi-tiered interventions and supports to students at Roosevelt, including individual and group counseling, high risk assessments, crisis intervention, case management, family engagement, linkages to school-based and community resources, and support for school wide interventions in collaboration with our School Climate and Culture Team.  More information can be found in the School Social Workers pamphlet.

  • Referrals are typically made for students that are not in a crisis situation.
  • All sessions and communication with the SSW are confidential, so the SSW is not able to share information about the student, or the sessions, with you.

Eminence Healthcare
New to Roosevelt beginning in 2017-18 is support for students through Eminence Healthcare.  Through Eminence, some students will participate in a teen living elective, either during the day or after school, with counseling sessions that focus on alcohol and drug use, anger management, gang awareness, life skills, and counseling for individual and family.  If you have a student who you believe needs support, please complete a referral.

Fresno County Behavioral Health
Roosevelt High School has an on-site licensed mental health clinician, Elizabeth Stone, LMFT. Primary referrals for this service are students who recevie support through MediCal.  A student who would be a candidate for a new referral would be someone who has had a shift in behavior, grades have dropped, or has had a change in consistency of attendance.

On-Site Counseling Program
On-site counselors Ashton Bernal, LMFT and Anthony Garcia, MFT provide ongoing social-emotional support to students with individualized education plans (IEPs). These clinicians provide ongoing counseling services, through assessment and diagnosis, treating a variety of mental health needs.  Services are only provided to students with designated services in their IEPs.

Fresno Street Saints
The Fresno Street Saints (through the Fresno Economic Opportunities Commisssion) provides regular mentoring to students on campus. In addition to programs focusing on healthy choices in education and social situations, the Fresno Street Saints focus on training future community leaders.
