Business Academy


The Roosevelt Business Academy is a partnership betwen the IRS and Roosevelt High school that was approved beginning in 1989.  This agreement, between business and education, prepares students academically and vocationally for either entrance to college or careers in a selected field..  The Business Academy is a three-year program in which students are selected through a voluntary application process.  The program integrates personal contact, a challenging and relevant curriculum, and close ties between parents, school, and the private/public sector.

Academy Activities

The Business Academy selects from several activities and trips throughout the school year, including:
  • Lunches and Dinners
    • Back to School Get Together
    • Thanksgiving Lunch at the IRS
    • Academy Awards Dinner
  • Welcome Trip to Yosemite
  • Holiday Social
  • University Field Trips
    • Sophomores/Juniors to CSUs/UCs
  • Reward Trips and Luncheons
    • San Francisco's Pier 39
    • Old Town Sacramento and Capital
    • UC Santa Cruz Tour and Santa Cruz Boardwalk
  • Potential of Job Shadowing at the IRS/VITA Center (Juniors)
  • Senior Amusement Park Trip (FREE)

Academy Requirements

Students must:
  • maintain a minimum 2.0 GPA to enter the program, and must strive for a 3.0 GPA
  • commit to the program for 3 years (10th - 12th)
  • take required electives (Multimedia, Small Business Management/VITA, Virtual Enterprise, or Photography)
