Dress Code

MAYFAIR SCHOOL

DRESS AND GROOMING CODE

 

The following dress code applies to both sexes and will be enforced at Mayfair and at school functions.

ANY APPAREL, HAIR STYLE OR COSMETIC, EVEN IF NOT SPECIFICALLY MENTIONED BELOW, WHICH CREATES A SAFETY CONCERN, DRAWS UNDUE ATTENTION TO THE WEARER, OR WHICH TENDS TO DETRACT FROM THE EDUCATIONAL PROCESS WILL NOT BE ACCEPTED. EXAMPLES OF THE PROHIBITED APPAREL, HAIR STYLE, COSMETIC, OR DRESS INCLUDE THE FOLLOWING:

  1. Headwear, other than hats or caps, will not be allowed at school.  Hats or caps must be worn with the bill facing forward and be removed in the cafeteria, classroom or offices.
  2. Sunglasses (except prescription) are not to be worn at school.
  3. Shoes must be worn on campus and at school functions. NO ZORIES, THONGS SLIP ON SHOES, HEELES, or  HEELS OVER ONE INCH HIGH ARE ALLOWED.  Due to safety reasons, all sandals MUST have a back strap.
  4. Make-up and/or cosmetics are not to be worn.
  5. Attire with lettering or drawings which depict sexually suggestive expressions or actions, profanity, obscenity, drugs, alcohol, or tobacco, or which degrade the integrity of the individual or others may not be worn.
  6. Underwear-type sleeveless shirts, tank tops, tube tops, halter tops, or pajamas are not acceptable. This includes torn or radically altered clothing.
  7. Any see-through apparel or other form of clothing which exposes the body is not acceptable, e.g., torn clothing, or midriff showing when arms are raised.  Boys' net shirts must be worn over a T-Shirt.
  8. Excessively baggy clothes are not allowed. Shirts must be tucked in to pants if shirt comes below fingertips when arms are extended at the sides. "Zip  Ties" will be used to pull two pant loops together for habitual offenders of baggy pants.
  9. Dresses, skirts and shorts must be hemmed. SHORTS SHOULD NOT BE SHORTER THAN STUDENTS FINGER TIPS WHEN ARMS ARE AT SIDE.  NO BIKE SHORTS FOR GRADES 3-6.
  10. Attire which may be used as a weapon may not be worn, e.g., steel-toed boots, chains, items with spikes or studs.
  11. Haircuts or hair styles which draw undue attention to the wearer or detract from the educational process are not acceptable; i.e. unusual designs, colors, mohawks, tails, or unusual razor cuts.
  12. Earrings are acceptable for ears only and cannot be longer than 1 inch. No gauges of any size or colors.
  13.  Clothing or back packs with sports team logos, symbols, insignias, or colors associated with gangs are not to be worn.
