Frequently Asked Questions

Frequently Asked Questions

Why choose online learning?

There are a wide variety of reasons for why you might choose eLearn Academy. Perhaps you have outside interests that require you to be outside of Fresno some of the time. Possibly you would like to graduate early. Maybe you are looking for a small school environment. Whatever your reasons, our goal is to support you in your efforts.

What does eLearn Academy offer?

Fresno Unified’s eLearn Academy is for students seeking a full-time online program. Students need to meet specific criteria. Our programs have flexible attendance options depending on student needs. Our programs include:
• Grade 7-8
• Grade 9-12
• Early Graduation opportunities.
• Site-based online courses

eLearn Academy has a full four years of online curriculum that meets a-g for the University of California & California State University systems. In addition, we offer Honors courses and college courses in Grades 11-12.

How do I get in?

Your first stop on your road to eLearn Academy is to talk with the counselor at your assigned middle or high school to see if you qualify for the program.

What does this program look like on a weekly basis?

Our goal is to personalize the program to meet your needs. A typical week includes both home-based independent study and school-based instruction. The number of days you must attend in a week is most likely fewer and the number of hours on those days is certainly fewer than at a traditional school. Even though the student may be at home, you will still have access to teachers through chat, email, phone, and Skype. During the school-based instruction, the student works 1:1 with the teacher and in small group format.

Students must log into the system every day. Even when not scheduled to be at school, students are free to come and get support. Students are required to participate in laboratory science “wet labs” that are scheduled regularly throughout the semester.

What if I need more support?

When most people think of online schools, the thinking is that the student is 100% online. While we will have a tiny number of students where this is true, it’s more common that you will work part of your week at home and part of your week at school. The typical student in our Middle School Program attends two days per wee week. The typical student in our High School Program attends two-three days per week (depending on needs). If you need something different, come in and talk with us and let’s see if there is an option available for you.

Credentialed teachers are available from Monday – Friday from 8:30 – 2:00 for a chat (via the online program, email, phone, and face-to-face). In addition, other hours may be available by appointment.
