Fresno Unified’s newest campus, Juan Felipe Herrera Elementary School, will host a grand opening ribbon cutting ceremony. Guests will have the opportunity to learn more about the school’s Spanish dual language immersion program, how teachers are integrating science, technology, engineering, art and math (STEAM) into daily lessons, and United Health Centers’ on-campus family health clinic.

Speakers will include Juan Felipe Herrera, a Fowler native who was the nation’s Poet Laureate from 2015 to 2017 and a former Fresno State professor. Superintendent Bob Nelson, members of the Fresno Unified Board of Education, and a student will also speak. Guests will be welcomed by the Sunnyside High School marching band.

“Juan Felipe Herrera Elementary is a state-of-the-art school with a focus on STEAM and learning two languages, where arts are emphasized, and students have access to a school garden. Herrera Elementary will truly serve as a neighborhood hub, offering a health clinic that the entire family can utilize,” said Superintendent Bob Nelson.
