Parent Learning Curriculum

​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​Early Learning

The Early Learning Module provides parents with children ages 4-8 with an introduction to Fresno Unified, including information to access available resources. This module also provides parents with the skills and knowledge to understand the important academic and social development benchmarks necessary to be ready for kindergarten, ages, and stages of language development, nutrition, physical development and math, and science concepts.


Elementary School 

The Elementary School Module provides an overview of FUSD, the classroom environment, school campus visits, understanding accountability systems, and how to monitor student achievement.


Transition to Middle School

This module focuses on topics related to parents of 6th-grade students transitioning into Middle School, including the Middle School environment, academic success, and School Choice.  The culminating activity is a campus tour of the middle school for that particular region.


Middle School

The Traditional Middle School Module provides parents an understanding of the middle school environment and the impact on their child. It includes social and emotional changes, as well as how to engage with support staff (social worker, guidance learning advisor, academic counselor, etc.) Sessions include question and answer opportunities with content experts on social/ emotional and academic shifts commonly experienced in middle school. In addition, parents will learn about how to monitor student progress (ATLAS), School Choice Options and Career Pathways, and transitioning into high school.

Transition to High School

This module focuses on topics related to parents of 8th-grade students transitioning to high school, including what to expect in the freshman year, an overview of behavior and discipline and attendance.  An overview of ATLAS and a high school campus visit are also included in this module.   


High School Modules

11th Grade Module

The 11th Grade Module focuses on topics related to parents of high school Juniors, including what to expect as a junior, behavior and discipline, SAT/ACT exams and the UC/CSU college systems. Also included is information about AP courses, financial aid (FAFSA) and scholarships. 

12th Grade Module

The 12th Grade Module focuses on topics related to parents of Seniors, including what to expect as a senior, post-secondary options, information about college fees, applications and admission requirements (CSU, UC and private college systems), exam dates and support services. 


English Learners

English Learners - Primary 

An overview of the English Learner services in Fresno Unified. It provides information on support services available for English Learners in the district, including re-designation criteria and the ELPAC.

Long-Term English Learners 

Includes parental support in accessing and navigating the ATLAS Parent Portal to monitor student progress. It also includes information on re-designation criteria, ELPAC and the Seal of Bi-literacy.


Special Education

The Special Education (SPED) Module is a four-week course that supports families with special needs.  Parent learning opportunities for the SPED Module include information on the Individualized Education Plan (IEP) process and support for student achievement.  ​
