Choice School Hub Transportation Model · Zūm Registration · Bus Passes

What changed and why?

Neighborhood bus stops for Choice and Magnet middle and high schools have been replaced for the 2026–27 school year. Under the new Hub Transportation Model, students board at a designated school campus (their “hub”) and ride directly to their Choice or Magnet school. No student transfers buses.

Why the change? Under the old model, buses made hundreds of neighborhood stops, creating long ride times, unreliable arrivals, and heavy traffic around elementary campuses at drop-off.

The Hub Model:

•      Gets students to school earlier — in time for breakfast and ready to learn

•      Shortens ride times with direct routes and far fewer stops

•      Boards students at supervised school campuses rather than street corners and parks

•      Relieves morning traffic congestion at 42 elementary schools

•      Helps the district run buses responsibly — and those savings are already funding new service for students who need it most

This model is already working successfully at Patiño, Duncan, and summer school programs.

Why were Choice/Magnet school routes consolidated?
Choice and Magnet school bus routes have been consolidated so students board at their home middle or high school rather than at individual neighborhood stops. The previous model relied on many separate stops for each Choice school, which strained bus capacity and made on-time performance inconsistent. Consolidating boarding at each student's home school protects and strengthens bus service district-wide and allows Transportation to provide new service for additional students. It also reduces congestion at elementary sites during morning drop-off and afternoon pick-up — a safer environment for our youngest, most vulnerable students.
