Windows 10 to Windows 11!

We are excited to announce that our IT team will be rolling out Windows 11 across all compatible devices during the fall of 2024. This upgrade is a significant step forward in enhancing our operational efficiency and security.

Existing laptops will receive the update through the Windows Update tool and all new device refresh deployments will come with Windows 11 in the fall of 2024.

Windows 11 brings a host of new features and improvements that will help streamline our workflows and provide a more intuitive user experience. To ensure a smooth transition, we will be providing support and resources to all staff members.

How to Upgrade on Demand

You can now upgrade your computer to Windows 11 at your own convenience. Just go to the Start menu in Windows 10, click on the Settings icon, select Update & Security, and then click on Windows Update. If your computer is eligible, you’ll see the option to upgrade to Windows 11. This update will bring new features and improvements to help enhance your experience. Feel free to upgrade whenever it's most convenient for you by clicking the Download and install button.

Important: Windows 10 is nearing end-of-life for support by Microsoft. All staff and student computers MUST be upgraded to Windows 11 by the end of this school year to ensure security compliance.

Software Center to Company Portal

With the move to Windows 11, we are transitioning from using Software Center to Company Portal for accessing all approved applications. The Company Portal is an easy-to-use app that allows you to find and install the software you need for teaching and learning. This change helps ensure that all applications are up-to-date and compatible with Windows 11.

Windows 11 Tutorials

1. Start Menu and Taskbar:

  • Start Menu: The Start Menu has been centered and streamlined. Click on the Windows icon in the center of the taskbar to access your apps, recent files, and settings. Watch How
  • Taskbar: The taskbar now features a centered layout. You can pin your favorite apps here for quick access. Watch How

2. Widgets:

  • Widgets: Widgets provide personalized information at a glance. Click on the Widgets icon in the taskbar to open the widgets pane. Customize widgets to display weather, news, calendar, and more. Watch How

3. Snap Layouts and Snap Groups:

  • Snap Layouts: Easily organize and resize windows by dragging them to the edges of the screen. Windows will automatically snap into place. Watch How
  • Snap Groups: Group related windows together for multitasking. Hover over an app in the taskbar to see its open windows.

4. Virtual Desktops:

  • Virtual Desktops: Create separate desktops for different tasks. Click on the Task View icon in the taskbar to manage virtual desktops. Watch How

5. Settings and Control Panel:

  • Settings: Access system settings by clicking on the Start Menu and selecting “Settings.” Here, you can customize display, sound, mouse, power and more.
  • Control Panel: Some advanced settings are still available in the Control Panel. Search for “Control Panel” in the Start Menu to access it.
