  • Credential or Substitute Permit (must show expiration date)

3.  Apply for the “Certificated Substitute” position

4.  Complete job interview successfully

5.  Fingerprint with Fresno Unified

Attend mandatory new hire orientation

There are several permit options for substitute teaching in California. If you need to obtain a substitute permit, use the information below to guide you on choosing the right permit to apply for.

Hold a Bachelor’s degree (BA) Have at least 90 semester units from an accredited college or university and are currently enrolled

Specially click on the applicable links in the sections titled, “Substitute Teaching” and “Additional Resources”.  These links will walk you through a step by step process on how to obtain a substitute teaching permit

Application Process

  1. Complete the Fresno Unified School District Certificated online application

    Provide the email addresses of two individuals to complete the electronic letters of support.

    Attach the following:
    • Resume
    • Credential or Substitute Permit (must show expiration date)
    • Transcripts
    • Apply for the position
  2. Survey link will be emailed to the provided email on your online application (Please note: Email will be from the Gallup Organization not from Fresno Unified School District)
  3. Complete job interview successfully
  4. Fingerprint with Fresno Unified after successful completion of interview ($68.00 Cashier Check or Money Order)
  5. Attend mandatory professional learning & orientation
