Kindergarten Enrollment
Immunizations
In addition to presenting a current physical examination for kindergarten registration, children must present an immunization record. Board Policy 5141.31. Children may receive the physical examination and immunizations from their own physicians, the FUSD Student Health Center or receive a referral from the Fresno County Health & Disability Prevention Program. Children who do present an immunization record or who do not present a current physical examination will not be registered for kindergarten. Children who do not have current immunizations may be registered, but will not be allowed to attend school until the immunizations are current.
Dental Check-up
State of California recommends that kindergarten students have a dental check-up by May 31 of their kindergarten year. This dental check-up is not required for kindergarten enrollment but is due by May 31 of the Kindergarten year. The law specifies that the dental check-up must be done by licensed or registered dental health professional, such as a dentist, dental hygienist, or dental assistant. Dental check-ups that have happened within 12 months before the student enters school also meet this requirement. Parents/Guardians may sign a waiver if they cannot find a dental office that takes their child’s insurance, cannot afford to pay for it, or the parent chooses not to have their child’s oral health checked by a dental professional.
