About the Family Learning and Technology Support FLATS Team
In order to prepare students to succeed in a global, high-tech, information-rich society, we are committed to ensuring that all students have access to and are capable of using technology. As one of the largest school districts in the state, serving the needs of our students and their families requires state of the art devices, connectivity, innovative software, and necessary supports. The Family Learning and Technology Support Center provides assistance to students and families with devices, the ATLAS Student and Parent Portal, and other technology-related subjects, in support of both on-campus and distance learning environments.

We have six locations throughout the Fresno Unified School District. They all Open and Close at the Same Time and service parents on a walk-in basis.

What services do you offer?
Family Learning and Technology Support Center provides assistance to students and families with devices, the ATLAS Student and Parent Portal, and other technology-related subjects, in support of both on-campus and distance learning environments. Our services include:

Are you open during breaks?
The Family Learning and Technology Support centers (FLATS) are open Monday-Fridays 7AM-4PM year-round even during Spring Break, Winter or Thanksgiving Break and Summer Vacation. We only close on district holidays. https://www.fresnounified.org/calendars/
I’ve never received a FUSD Laptop, how do I get one?
If you would like a FUSD issued laptop, just come to any FLATS location to pick up a device. All you need is your student’s information.

What do I do if my device stops working?
If you are having any technological issues with your Fresno Unified laptop such white or blue screen, charging issues etc. you can contact the FLATS center at 559-457-3939 or come in as a walk-in with your device for tech support or a replacement.

Do I need to make an appointment for a device or device replacement?
Do you need a computer? Visit any one of our four FLATS Centers. No appointment necessary! Our walk-in hours are Mon – Fri 7 AM – 4 PM (closed on District holidays). Our Centers:

What do I do if the FUSD device breaks, gets lost or stolen or is defective?
- If the device has been broken, lost, or stolen parents/guardians will be responsible for replacing the device at one of our FLATS locations.
- Fees may be associated with devices that are lost, stolen, or damaged

How do I get over the phone tech support?
If you need over the phone tech support or would like to get remote assistance for your student Call us at 559-457-3939.
How do device fines work?
If the device has been broken, lost, or stolen parents/guardians will be responsible for any fees associated with the damaged, lost, or stolen laptops.
Payments can be made at the time of the replacement in Cash, Card, Apple Pay or as a fine.
Fines
If you are unable to make a payment at the time of the replacement you can add the Amount due to the student’s account. These fines do not get collected until the time the student leaves the district either through graduation or transferring out of the district.
You can also add a fine if you plan to work with the student’s site regarding a possible waiver.
Payments can be done in full or partial at your own pace.
Are there privacy and security policies in place?
- The district will abide by all Federal and State laws governing student privacy including:
- FERPA – Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act
- COPPA- Children’s Online Privacy Protection Act
- CIPA- Children’s Internet Protection Act
- SOPIPA- Student Online Personal Information Protection Act
- California Education Code
- 2. Internet Safety – Fresno Unified has implemented content filtering and/or blocking technologies to restrict access to inappropriate material while on the district’s network.
- The district has pre-installed an app from Gaggle. Gaggle has been implemented, this added functionality increases the protection of students in Gaggle districts utilizing Microsoft Teams, which allows teachers, students, and coaches to chat, meet, call, or collaborate with ease. The app monitors exchanges between students to ensure there is no bullying, discussion of weapons, etc.
- 4. Acceptable and Responsible use of technology– The student is expected to abide by the district’s Acceptable Use Policy and practice positive digital citizenship.
*Additional measures for individual student’s will need to be identified and put in place in working with your student’s administrator.
Internet options for your Student
How will my student’s get internet access off campus?
There are three Internet Options for your Fresno Unified student.
- Option #1: Comcast Broadband Internet
- Option #2: Connect2Learn (FUSD’s Private LTE Network)
- Option #3: T-Mobile Hotspot
Comcast offers affordable high-speed internet at home with Internet Essentials. Financial assistance is available. For more information, call Fresno State’s Office of Community and Economic Development at (559) 278-0721.
School communities benefiting from the LTE network include:
- Addams, Anthony, Ayer, Bakman, Calwa, Columbia, Computech, Edison, Gaston, Greenberg, Hidalgo, Jackson, Jefferson, Lowell, Roosevelt. Rowell, Sequoia, Sunnyside, Tehipite, Terronez, Vang Pao, Winchell, Yokomi, Yosemite.
The LTE network reaches up to ½ to ¾ mile from the schools listed above in bold. To obtain access to our Connect2Learn network call 559-457-3939
- If you do not live near any of the sites listed, your student is eligible to receive a T-Mobile hotspot with up to 100 GB available per year.
How do I set up the Cradle point at home?
This device is for use at your home residence. It’s best to set up the device near a window that is facing the school nearest you that has the LTE radios. This is referred to as the line of sight. Here are some basics to assist you when setting up the cradle point:
How do I set up my T-Mobile Hotspot?
- When you first turn on your new device, you might see a setup wizard to help get you started. Look at the steps below to walk through the setup process. You can use your T9 as a wireless mobile hotspot to connect to a total of 8 Wi-Fi capable devices to the mobile broadband network.
- You can find your Wi-Fi Name and Password any time you need. Just press the power/menu button shortly when the display is on.
- Power on your hotspot
- Open the Wi-FI application or controls on your laptop or Wi-FI capable device that you want to connect to your T9. Then find your T9’s Wi-Fi name.
- Click Connect and enter the Password when prompted
- Open your browser and you are good to go!

Is there a cap on the T-Mobile hotspot data?
The T-Mobile hotspot with up to 100 GB available per device, the data does not renew or get reloaded. When the data runs out a replacement at FLATS can be made.
A message appeared on the hotspot that the “cycle is ending in X days” or “no data.” What does this mean?
Families can disregard either message. The first message is related to the billing cycle that FUSD is responsible for. The family will not lose internet service on the hotspot until the data has all been used.
Hotspots will remain active through the school year if it has data.
How do I create a parent portal?
To create a parent portal, you will need the Family Account Login information for each student you are adding to your personal parent portal. This can be acquired from your student’s site or by calling FLATS at 559-457-3939.
You can create a parent portal using an email or a phone number, You will create the parent portal at parents.fresnou.org
- Go to the sign in page and enter your login information.
- Near the upper-right corner of the screen, click the user menu drop-down. Click on “Create Personal Account.”
- Locate your contact information and click the “This Is Me” button.
- Enter an email address that you will use to log into your Personal Account.
- Create a password.
- Click the “Create Account” button.
- You will receive an email at the email address you entered in the previous step. It will contain a link you must click on to finish creating your account.
- A new browser window will open and your account will be created.

How do I reset my parent portal password?
Finding or resetting your ATLAS Parent Portal password is not difficult, but the answer depends on which of the two types of ATLAS Parent Portal accounts you are using: Family Account or Personal Account.
Family Account: What is my ATLAS Parent Portal Family Account Password?
An ATLAS Parent Portal Family Account is automatically created when a student is first enrolled into a Fresno Unified school.
Your ATLAS Parent Portal Family Account password is:
- Provided upon request by your student’s teacher
- Provided upon request by your student’s school office staff
- Printed at the bottom of student progress reports and report cards
Personal Account: What is my ATLAS Parent Portal Personal Account Password?
If you have forgotten the password, you selected when creating your ATLAS Parent Portal Personal Account, resetting it is easy!
- Click “Forgot Your Password?” on the login page, Enter your email address.
- Request and then enter a verification code.
- Select a new password, and confirm it.
How do I change my preferred language?
Parents and Guardians can specify a preferred language and the ATLAS Parent Portal will be translated. This preferred language is also used by ATLAS Connect when delivering messages to Parents and Guardians.

Step 1: Login to the ATLAS Parent Portal
Step 2: From the User Menu located in the top right next to your name, click Settings.
Step 3: Select the preferred communication language and click save.
What is the ATLAS Inbox?
Announcements from teachers who are using ATLAS Connect can be delivered to Parents and Guardians through SMS, Email or the ATLAS Inbox. ATLAS Connect message and announcements are always delivered to a Parent or Guardians’ Inbox regardless of their notification preferences. You can access your ATLAS Inbox with the following steps:
Step 1: Login to the ATLAS Parent Portal using the email and password you chose when you created your Personal Parent Portal Account
Step 2: From the User Menu located in the top right next to your name, click Inbox.
Tip: If you have received new announcements, you will see a number next to the inbox indicating how many.
Step 3: This is your ATLAS Inbox where you will see any announcements that you have received. Click an announcement from the list on the left to view it in the reading pane on the right.
How do I use the Conversations Feature in ATLAS Connect?
ATLAS Connect is a direct messaging feature in the Parent Portal. This feature allows parents/guardians to send direct messages to the student’s teacher(s) and to receive direct messages from the student’s teacher(s). https://atlaskb.fresnounified.org/ac/
Parents/guardians have the choice to receive messages via email, text messages or the ATLAS Inbox found in their Parent Portal. Messages will be translated into the language selected in the Parent Portal by the parent/guardian.

Getting Familiar with your ATLAS Student Portal
- Login to the ATLAS Student Portal using the email and password assigned to you. On the top of the page, you will see a blue Navigation Bar with 4 Links.
The first two links – Strides and Leaderboard can be used to access students’ personal virtual achievements.
The 3rd link – “Links” will take students to a page with all important links relevant to their grade level.
On the left-hand side of the page, you will see a series of tabs as seen here. These tabs will allow your student to navigate through their ATLAS Account. Here is what information you can access from each tab:
- Summary – This will be the first page that will appear when your student logs into their account. Here, your student will see a brief overview of their information including emergency contacts and student schedule.
- Strides – Strides is a way your student can obtain virtual achievements and compete in friendly competition with other students. Some achievements include attendance records and maintaining a high GPA of 3.0 and above.
- Assessments –This where your student can view the results of any district or state mandated tests that they have been issued. What your student sees here will be dependent on their grade level.
- Attendance – Here, your student will be able to see their attendance history, for each class – including tardies, excused and unexcused absences.
- Grades – On this page, your student can view their current schedule, GPA trends, and an overview of missing or completed classwork for each course.
- My Devices – This is an important page that will allow your student to see what district devices were checked out to them as well as when they were issued. On this page, you may see devices that were checked out in the Fresno Unified Destiny and or Inventory Tool such as a school instrument, or district laptop/tablet.

How do I get my students login information?
Student passwords are used by Fresno Unified School District students to login to the ATLAS Student Portal and many other online learning websites and apps. You can get that login from:
- Student’s Teacher or front office
- FLATS by calling 559-457-3939
- Your parent portal, in the portal access tab
My student forgot his/her password, how do I reset it?
Student passwords are used by Fresno Unified School District students to login to the ATLAS Student Portal and many other online learning websites and apps.
If your student has forgotten their password, you can:
- Ask your student’s teacher or office staff to reset it in ATLAS
- Reset it by logging into the ATLAS Parent Portal. If you are identified as the Primary Guardian for your student in ATLAS, you will see a tab called Portal Access when logged into the Parent Portal using a Personal Account. Your student’s password can be reset from this tab.
- Reset your student’s password by calling FLATS at 559-457-3939.
- Students in grades 5th-12th can reset their passwords themselves in their student portal https://students.fresnou.org/Home/SignIn?ReturnUrl=%2f .
What is Clever?
Many curricula online learning applications are available through Clever. Students can also access their digital curricula through their Student Portal. When logging into a Curriculum site like Wonders or GoMath, students will need to use their full email address for the Username, including @fresnou.org. For example: Abcd@fresnou.org
How do I sign into Clever?
You can access Clever from several locations on your FUSD laptop such as:
- Desktop icon installed on the FUSD laptop
- Student Portal, several clever links are listed https://students.fresnou.org/Home/SignIn?ReturnUrl=%2f
- From your web browser of choice, type: http://go.fresnou.org/Clever
Select which location you are opening clever from such as the desktop icon installed on the FUSD laptop, Select Log in with Active Directory.
- Enter your FUSD assigned login information
- Username is 4-digit code @fresnou.org
- Password assigned to student in ATLAS

Edgenuity
The Edgenuity Student Experience provides highly rigorous and rewarding content that features standards-based instruction, powerful interactive tools, and engaging multimedia and real-world applications that help students focus on building content knowledge and essential skills.
Edgenuity must be added to your student’s Clever portal by the Edgenuity teacher to be accessible. For technical support with Edgenuity please refer to your Edgenuity Teachers.
How do I sign into Teams and Join the Class Meeting?
The Teams application will load automatically on the FUSD device screen. You can also open the application by clicking on the pre-installed Teams Application on the desktop. You can also go to google chrome and search for https://login.microsoftonline.com/ to sign in.
Signing in from a Browser
- To sign into Teams on the browser you will go to https://login.microsoftonline.com/ it will bring up a sign in page. Type your Fresno Unified School District Username (4-digit code @fresnou.org) in the Username Box, Select Next. Enter your Password in the Password Box, select Sign In.
- Select Teams button to see which class teams you’re in. If your educator has already set up the class team and added you, you’ll see one or more (depending on how many classes you have) class team tiles.
Signing in from the Application on the Desktop
- To sign into Teams on the App, go to Teams Desktop App, it will bring up a sign in page. *Once signed in, the application should load automatically on the FUSD issued laptop.
- Type your Fresno Unified School District Username (4-digit code @fresnou.org) in the Username Box, Select Next
- Enter your Password in the Password Box, select Sign In.
This will bring up the Teams Homepage, the list of actions will appear on the right-hand side of the screen.
Joining the Class Meeting
Use meetings in Teams to virtually join your educator and classmates in online classes, study groups, presentations, and whenever you need to learn face-to-face.
Join from the calendar
- Select Calendar Meetings button to see any meetings your educator or classmates have added you to, or any you’ve created yourself. Select Join when it’s time to meet.
- Adjust your audio and video settings, then select Join now.
If the meeting has not begun or if the organizer/teacher has not joined, you will be put in the meeting waiting room.
Join from Direct Invitation
- If you get a direct invitation from the teacher, you will see a purple Join button and meeting box pop up on the screen, select Join to join the meeting
Join from the Chat or Posted Meeting on the channel
- If you go to the channel assigned to the teacher, you will see a section for general postings. The meeting will appear there as a post in the chat to join from.
The assignments Section in Teams
View both upcoming and completed assignments by class or view them across all your classes. Selecting an assignment will allow you to view its details, turn it in, or view feedback and scores. You can also view your current grades by class.
- By default, assignments you haven’t turned in yet will display by order of due date under the Assigned tab. Select “Load previous” and “Load more” to browse the list. Assignments you haven’t opened yet will have a bold title. Late assignments will include a Past due warning.
- Past due—You haven’t turned your assignment in yet and it’s past the due date. This will only appear if your educator is accepting late turn-ins.
- Assignment title and due date—Before the due date. You haven’t turned in work yet.
View turned in and returned assignments
Select the Completed tab to view assignments you’ve turned in. Assignments you’ve turned in will have a checkmark. Open one to view feedback and scores after your educator has returned it. You can also select an attached rubric to review more details on your score.
Select an assignment to view details, attach resources, and turn it in.
To view assignments across all your classes, select Assignments from your app bar. Select an assignment to open it or turn in work.
- Select “Load previous” or ‘Load more” to load additional assignments.
- Select Assigned to view work you haven’t turned in yet and completed to view work that you have.
Note: Not seeing an older assignment? Navigate to individual class teams and open Assignments to load more assignments.
Use Class Notebook in Teams
Need to take private notes or brainstorm with classmates? Use Class Notebook in your class team! If your educator has set up the notebook, select the Class Notebook tab in your class team and explore.
- Navigate to your class team and select Class Notebook.
- Select Show Navigation to expand the notebook and see all your sections: a Collaboration Space -for developing ideas and projects with classmates, a Content Library- where your educator can save important resources, and a private notebook section for your work only.
- Note the section at that bottom with your name—that’s your private notebook! Only you and your educator can see it.
What do I do if my camera, microphone, or speakers do not work on Teams?
Students can test the camera, microphone, and speakers in teams with a test call.
- Click on the three dots at the top of the screen
- Select settings, select devices, select Make a test call
- Once initiated you will see options to turn on the camera and microphone, make sure to check the volume on the laptop to verify sound.
How do I sign into Teams on my phone?
You can install Teams on your Apple or Android devices through the google play store or through the app store. Search Teams and select to install to your phone.
When signing into the Teams app, make sure to use the student’s FUSD credentials, do not create a parent or personal account.
From an iPhone
- From the apple store search for Teams, select Install. You will need to verify the download with your Apple ID. Once installed, select open. You can also open it from the home screen.
- Once Teams loads enter the students Fresno Unified credential, the username is the 4-digit @fresnou.org email, and password generated.
- You will get a quick guide, select next until you see the purple got it button, click Got It.
You will be directed to the main page where the channels lie at the bottom of the screen. You will see activity, Chat, Teams, Assignments, Calendar, and the More option indicated by the 3 dots.
From an Android
- Go to the google play store app on your phone, search for Teams and select install. Once installed, select open. You can also open it from the home screen.
- Once Teams loads enter the students Fresno Unified credential, the username is the 4-digit @fresnou.org email, and password generated.
- You will get a quick guide, select next until you see the purple got it button, click Got It.

How do I get access to Office 365 on other computers?
Fresno Unified School District students can install office 365 any non-FUSD computer, they are allowed up to 5 installations. You can access this feature from the Office portal on any browser.
Signing in from a Browser
To sign into Office 365 on the browser you will go to https://portal.office.com/ it will bring up a sign in page. Type your Fresno Unified School District Username (4-digit code @fresnou.org) in the Username Box, Select Next. Enter your Password in the Password Box, select Sign In.
Once signed in, a loaded home page will appear with applications pinned to the right and to the left an Install Office option. When clicking on this button, download for Office 365 Apps and Other install options will appear.
Select Office 365 apps to download. A file will appear at the bottom of the screen to install the application.
The EduText technology tool provides parents/guardians a daily grade and attendance update via their cell phones. These text messages will provide a live snapshot of a student’s cumulative grades and attendance that day, so parents/guardians have an accurate account of their child’s academic progress. Parents/guardians can go deeper into those details through the ATLAS Parent Portal. The portal can be found under the parent tab at www.fresnounified.org .
Registration for EduText can be done from your cell phone. Locate your EduText Parent PIN on your child’s progress report, the ATLAS Parent Portal or through your school office. Text that Parent PIN to 28527 (ATLAS). For families with multiple Fresno Unified students, you will need to text 28527 (ATLAS) separately for each of your EduText Parent PINs. Activation is immediate; updates will begin the following school day. Additional subscribers can be added using the same process.
Learn How to get started with a FUSD laptop
When using the FUSD Laptop for the first time, it may take 3-5 minutes for the student’s credentials to load and for applications to start up, you must stay connected to the internet while this process occurs.
1.Power on the Laptop
- Press the Power Button on the right side of the laptop.
- Connecting to the internet (Wi-Fi)
IMPORTANT: You must connect to the internet BEFORE signing on to your laptop for the first time.
- To connect to the internet, you will need to connect to a Wi-Fi network near you. Click on the Wi-Fi Icon found at the bottom right-hand side of your screen.
- Select the Wi-Fi network you want to connect to, and press Connect. If the Wi-Fi network is secured, enter the Wi-Fi key and press Connect.
*You may need to ask a parent, guardian, or another adult for the key.
- If you don’t see the Wi-Fi icon, press the Windows Key on your keyboard to open the Start Menu and type Wi-Fi.
- Select Change Wi-Fi Settings from the menu.
- Ensure your Wi-Fi is set to on
- Click on the link labeled Show available networks.
- Select the Wi-Fi network you want to connect to, and press Connect.
- If the Wi-Fi network is secured, enter the Wi-Fi key and press Connect. You may need to ask a parent, guardian, or another adult for the security key.
- Signing on to your laptop
- After connecting to Wi-Fi, you will see the following screen.
- Type your Fresno Unified School District Username (4-digit code @fresnou.org) in the Username Box and your Password in the Password Box.
- Press the Enter key or click on the arrow to sign on.
- Charging your FUSD Laptop
- To charge your laptop, plug the USB-C end of the power adapter that came with your laptop into the power port on the left side of your laptop. Plug the other end of the power adapter into a 110v wall socket.
- Any time you step away from your computer, you should lock the screen, to keep your session secure.
- To lock your screen, Press the Windows key, and the L Key at the same time. A blue screen will appear. Click on Lock. This locks your screen.
- When you are ready to use your laptop again, click any key to show the Windows Logon Screen. Enter your Fresno Unified user id and password, and press enter, or click on the arrow.
- To shut down your computer, make sure you save your work. Once you have saved your work
- press the Windows key and click on the Power icon. Click Shut down. Windows will shut down, and your computer will turn itself off.
How will the district manage the devices?
The district will be using Software Center to manage the Windows devices. The district cannot remotely monitor location, turn on services, or access the device camera with these management solutions. It is important that parents/guardians monitor their students’ device usage.
Below are important tips for students and parents/guardians to ensure privacy and security:
- Don’t give out personal information online, such as name, phone number or home address
- Never send pictures to strangers
- Don’t access web content without permission
- Tell an adult if you receive a mean or strange message

Will devices come with applications, media, or other software?
The district will provide grade-level appropriate content and other resources on the device. Additional content must be vetted through the student’s teacher to the Information Technology Team for approval to be used as a distance learning resource.
