Fresno Unified School District
DLI Admission Process & Guidance
The learning of languages requires a multi-year commitment (5-7 years) and the school district is interested in working with families who will make this long term commitment for bilingualism and bi-literacy for their child. As you enroll your child in this program you agree to keep your child in the program throughout his/her elementary school years to develop fluency and literacy in two languages. We also recommend that our DLI students continue their biliteracy pathway through middle and high school.

Considerations for Acceptance into a DLI Program Grades
*Students are generally enrolled in dual language immersion in preschool, transitional kindergarten, or kindergarten and continue in the program. However, students may be enrolled in a dual language immersion class if one of the following scenarios take place.
Newcomer Students (Spanish-speaking):
-
Newcomer students who are Spanish speaking are encouraged to be enrolled in a Spanish dual language immersion classroom. A Spanish dual language classroom is the best option for a student with a Spanish literacy background. Native Spanish-speaking students serve as language models for native English-speaking students in dual language immersion classrooms.
New to Fresno Unified School District:
-
Students previously enrolled in a dual language program at a former school or school district are encouraged to be enrolled in a Spanish dual language immersion classroom.
-
Transfers Office and English Learner Services confirm DLI enrollment at former school/district.
