Department of Expanded Learning
Expanded Learning’s guiding principle is to intentionally create relevant experiences, skills, and supports necessary for each of our students to graduate from high school with a wide array of post-secondary options and a plan to achieve their goals. The Expanded Learning Department provides opportunities outside of the traditional school day for students to receive additional support.

Another component we observed was older students losing access to credit remedial courses because they were caring for younger siblings who were not in an after school program. Now, these younger siblings are in after school programs, and the high school students can make up credits during summer and winter. We are seeing more high school students making up units in order to graduate on time or more summer grads. Of our ~300 summer high school grads, about 60% of these students mentioned a younger sibling engaged in “some type of summer camp/winter camp, experience” as a factor in allowing them to graduate. ELO-P is doing A LOT more than just out-of-school experiences.
