Phoenix Secondary Academy

Phoenix Secondary Academy is a unique educational program designed to meet the needs of students exhibiting behavioral challenges in grades 7 through 12. The program creates an environment in which the staff build strong relationships with students and parents and work to create positive learning experiences that support future success. Phoenix Secondary provides therapeutic support in the form of school social workers, a school psychologist, and a school counselor that involve students in individual and group counseling geared towards anger management, peer and parent conflict resolution, grief, and self-esteem. The academic program is structured to provide rigorous class offerings and intensive, focused support in areas of identified student need. Phoenix Secondary offers a wide range of electives including Career Technical Education courses in Design and Marketing, Esports, and Sustainable Agriculture.

CTE Courses

Design and Marketing

The Design and Marketing course provides an understanding of principles, theories, and elements of design. It introduces students to the language of Visual Arts through 21st century technology. Students engage in current social media marketing practices and include some historic practices in the creative field through a series of personal and creative activities. Students also develop an understanding of cognitive marketing and branding solutions for a given product, whether it is a commodity, a political idea, an instrument of social change, or an effort to recruit patronage or participation.

Esports Creative Media

The Creative Media Pathway incorporates video production, live-stream broadcasting, and shout casting. Students will develop practical skills in video production, content development, design, and shout casting for esports. The skills learned are applicable for pursuing careers in journalism, media production, promoting, visual engineering, online content management, or shout casting/commentating.

Sustainable Agriculture

A program teaching agriculture mechanics and plant science. Students learn and apply skills in both operating and maintaining environments for correct plant growth. Labs and activities have an emphasis on plant identification, control of agriculture pests, weed control, plant environments, soil media, plant growth, plant propagation, transplanting, and merchandising of ornamental plants. Students also gain experience through leadership development, garden projects, and career exploration in the area of plant science.
