Duncan Polytechnical High School

Duncan Polytechnical High School is a magnet comprehensive high school that equips its graduates with the skills and knowledge necessary to succeed in their future postsecondary education and chosen career.

Duncan has two Career Technical Education (CTE) Academies: the Innovative Design and Applied Technology Academy (IDATA) and the Medical Academy of Science and Health (MASH). In addition to the 4-year career pathways and rigorous academic courses, students also have opportunities to take multiple dual enrollment college courses, Advanced Placement (AP), and Visual and Performing Arts course work. Students can also take advantage of the multiple clubs, electives, Air Force Junior Reserve Officers' Training Corps (JROTC) program, sports, competitive CTE organizations, and student-centered activities to prepare them for higher education, the workforce, and life.

Innovative Design and Applied Technology Academy (IDATA)

IDATA consists of five Linked Learning pathways focusing on industrial technology careers, design process, and progressive skill development. Students have the opportunity to earn college credit, qualify for pre-apprenticeships, and are eligible to receive industry certifications including OSHA 10, Automotive Service Excellence (ASE), National Institute of Metalworking Skills (NIMS), and more. IDATA has specialized pathways in Automotive, Construction, Heavy Truck, Manufacturing, and Welding Fabrication.

Construction Technology

Construction Technology

The Construction Technology pathway focuses on construction, design process, and progressive skill development. If you like working with your hands, have sharp mechanical and problem-solving skills, and enjoy working collaboratively with others, this may be your pathway. Construction Technology is a stepping stone to securing a career with good wages and benefits right after high school. Mastering a variety of construction disciplines will help you build a successful future. Students are eligible to receive industry certifications including OSHA 10, National Center for Construction education and Research (NCCER), and S/P2, and can earn college credit.

Automotive Technology

Automotive Technology

Students in the Automotive Technology pathway become highly-skilled automotive technicians trained to repair, service, and maintain vehicles. Qualified students can earn real-life experience through internships at local dealerships and auto shops. Students have the opportunity to earn several industry certifications, including Safety and Pollution Prevention Training (S/P2), OSHA-10, various Automotive Service Excellence (ASE) student certifications, and recognition as a Valvoline Certified Technician. College credit is also offered in higher level courses. This pathway is certified by the National Automotive Technicians Education Foundation (NATEF).

Heavy Truck

Heavy Truck Technology

Students in the Heavy Truck Technology pathway learn maintenance and repair of heavy diesel trucks and diesel equipment in a one-of-a-kind, state of the art facility. Students can real real-life experience through internships at local dealerships and diesel repair shops. Students have the opportunity to earn several industry certifications, including Safety and Pollution Prevention Training (S/P2), OSHA-10, various Automotive Service Excellence (ASE) student certifications, and recognition as a Valvoline Certified Technician. College credit is also offered in higher level courses.

Manufacturing Technology

Manufacturing Technology

The Manufacturing Technology pathway lets you use your hands, your brain, and technology to make a difference in the community. Manufacturing is a growing industry in the Central Valley, and the number of jobs is steadily increasing. In this pathway, students learn various manufacturing skills ranging from machining, programming, and product development. Many career opportunities await for students who train to become skilled workers who take pride in producing products that consumers want and need. Students have the opportunity to earn several industry certifications, including OSHA-10, National Institute for Metalworking Skills (NIMS), credentials in CNC milling and CNC turning, and Safety and Pollution Prevention Training (S/P2). College credit, internships, and apprenticeships are also offered through the program. Graduates can go straight to work in entry-level manufacturing, machine operation, and product development positions.

Welding Fabrication

Welding Fabrication

Students in the Welding Fabrication program students learn to hand weld, flame cut, hand solder, and more, in order to prepare for careers building or repairing machinery, heavy equipment, pipes, and even ships. Through hands-on projects, students learn different types of arc welding, CNC plasma cutting, and oxy-acetylene welding, brazing, and cutting. Students have the opportunity to earn several industry certifications, including OSHA-10, American Welding Society (AWS) and Safety and Pollution Prevention Training (S/P2). College credit, internships, and apprenticeships are also offered through the program. Graduates can go straight to work in entry-level welding, manufacturing, and fabrication positions.

Medical Academy of Science and Health (MASH)

MASH consists of three Linked Learning and NAF Distinguished Academy pathways focusing on patient care. Students have the opportunity to obtain college credit and medical certifications including CPR, Basic Life Support, and OSHA 10. By graduation, students have the opportunity to become certified in different medical pathways such as Nursing (Certified Nursing Assistant) and Rehabilitation Therapy Aid. Specialized pathways are offered in Nursing Services, Pharmacy Technician, and Rehabilitation Therapy.

Nursing Services

Nursing Services

The Nursing Services pathway enables students to become a Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) so that they have the confidence and qualifications to work in hospitals, nursing homes, adult care facilities, personal residences, and other healthcare settings right after high school. While in the program, students learn how to provide patient-centered nursing care, how to develop therapeutic relationships, and how to effectively communicate and collaborate with patients and colleagues.

Pharmacy Technician

Pharmacy Technician

Pharmacy technicians help pharmacists dispense prescription medications to customers and healthcare professionals. If you want in-depth knowledge of and hands-on experience in the pharmaceutical industry, this is your pathway. By graduation, students can apply to the California State Board of Pharmacy to be a pharmacy technician.
