Academic Advisors 

A4's Academic Advisors have successfully supported more than 1,000 African American students in grades 6-12.

​Academic Center for Suspended Students

The first center in the Central Valley dedicated to assisting suspended students academically.

African American Student Leadership Academy (AASLA)

Our academy has worked with over 400 African American students, providing academic support and mentoring.

Black Student Union

Black Student Union clubs have expanded to over 35 school sites across the District including elementary school sites. A4 now helps students 4th through 12th grade enhance their leadership skills  

College Mentoring Program 

​The first-ever college mentoring program focused on African American student college enrollment and persistence for 11th and 12th-grade students. Ninety-five percent of mentors are African American.

i-Ready

A4’s emergent work with the i-Ready tool for African American students laid the groundwork for a District wide adoption initiative.

Reading Programs 

A4 launched the Elementary Reading Program during the summer of 2017, gaining national attention for the growth achieved by students in the 5-week pilot program. Since then, the program has expanded to offer year-round opportunities, including 9-week Fall and Spring afterschool sessions and a 3-week summer session. To date, over 2,600 kindergarten through 4th-grade students have completed at least one session of A4’s Reading Programs, collectively reading more than 140,000 books since the summer of 2020.

Waterford Reading Academy 

The first A4 literacy program that supports TK through second grade students during the instructional day.
