What: The Rev. James Lawson, an American activist who advocates for non-violence, will speak with students from four high schools, presented by the district’s Restorative Practices Office

The Rev. James Lawson will hold an interactive dialogue, “Non Violence and Peacemaking: The Journey and Promise for Youth,” with students from Edison, Fresno, McLane and Sunnyside high schools. The students learned about Lawson in Restorative Justice elective courses on their campuses. Students will present Lawson with a gift to acknowledge his inspiring work as an advocate for non-violent conflict resolution. Lawson’s visit is presented by Fresno Unified’s Restorative Practices Office in partnership with Fresno State University.

James Morris Lawson, Jr. is an American activist and leading theoretician and tactician of nonviolence within the Civil Rights Movement.

“We are proud to welcome Rev. Lawson to our district. This is a wonderful opportunity for our high school students to learn what it means to work peacefully to resolve conflict,” said Superintendent Bob Nelson.
