The California Avenue Neighborhood (CAN) Choice Neighborhood project is an intentional and compassionate effort to implement a dignified community development process. For the past two years, Fresno Housing has led a neighborhood effort to engage residents in a comprehensive neighborhood transformation planning effort to reinvest in the people, housing and neighborhoods in a small area of Southwest Fresno.

In an effort to engage the younger generation of the neighborhood, Fresno Housing partnered with Fresno Unified School District to lead students through a design process.  This six-week challenge has engaged students to work with their classmates and teachers on core neighborhood and community design elements. These students have been challenged to showcase what they want their neighborhood to look and feel like; what experiences they value and would like to see in their neighborhood transformation.

The CAN Design Challenge Showcase will give Gaston Middle School students the opportunity to showcase their work and present designs of their own neighborhood.
