Hidalgo Test Scores
The State of California released the results of the Academic Performance Index (API) for 2009. This is one way Hidalgo School is compared to other schools around the state. Our goal for 2009 was 7 points on the API and we made four times that amount and scored 29!! This is due to the good work parents do in getting their students to school ready to learn and the hard work teachers put in everyday to present good instruction. Our score of 685 puts us in range of 700 for this year. We will have more information for you about our test scores as it is released. Good work, Hidalgo Community!
Cafeteria Policy and Parent Visitation
It is the policy of Hidalgo School to feed any student who comes into the cafeteria prior to school starting and to give them adequate time to eat. Parents are responsible for getting their children to school in time to eat and make it to class when instruction begins.
We understand parents worry sometimes about their child eating in the cafeteria and want to be there during breakfast or lunch. At the beginning of the year we allow parents to help their child get used to the cafeteria. By this time, most of our students know how to eat in the cafeteria and we also have staff who can help them. Please assist us by allowing your child to eat by themselves in the cafeteria.
If you wish to come and observe in the cafeteria, please check in at the front office and you will be given a visitor’s pass. Thanks for your cooperation.
Updating Emergency Information
If you change telephone numbers please let us know immediately. If your child is hurt or gets sick at school, we need to be able to reach you. We also send important information about our school through our Teleparent system. If we do not have a current phone number for you, you will miss out on that information. Please assist us by letting us know if you change phone numbers.
School Uniforms
Please assist us to keep a positive learning envrionment by sending your child to school dressed in our school uniform. Blue jeans, blue slacks, shorts, skirts, and dresses, and white or Hidalgo blue t-shirts or collard shirts are allowed. Closed toe shoes, preferably sports shoes are necessary because we will be doing P. E. almost every day. A pack of 5 white t-shirts can be purchased for $5 dollars at Target. Please do not allow your children to wear red as it is a gang color in this area. Please do not send students to school in shirts with writing on them, as we do not want students to be distracted. We will be giving out rewards on a regular basis for those students who wear the school uniform. Save money, win prizes and be a part of Hidalgo!!!
Important Meetings
We are holding monthly meetings for School Site Council (SSC) and English Language Advisory Committee (ELAC). The SSC helps us make decisions about school funding and programs. ELAC provides assistance in meeting the needs of our English Learner (EL) students. The next ELAC meeting will be held on Tuesday, October 13, 2009 at 6:00 PM. The next SSC meeting will be Wednesday, November 4, 2009 from 3:30 PM to 5:00 PM. Meetings are held in the Media Center.
Reminder
If you have any questions, or something at the school is a problem for you, please be sure to see Mr. Jarvis or Mrs. Shirley. They are in classrooms most of the time, but can usually see you the same day if you make an appointment with the office.
