 | | | Chicago | PSESD purchased a career and college exploration software called Choices Planner than includes an electronic portfolio. | | | Chicago | Through an agreement with the Illinois Department of Employment Security, PSESD is able to track the employment of graduates employed in the state of Illinois. Because the data is provided by quarter, PSESD tracks employment in the fall after high school graduation, continuous employment through the year after graduation, and earnings. Reports are available for the graduating classes of 2004 and 2005. | Department of Employment | Chicago Public Schools Postsecondary Education and Student Development |
 | | | Chicago | Through the National Student Clearinghouse (NSC), PSESD obtains actual college enrollment data for CPS graduates. More than 2,900 US colleges and universities are included in the NSC database which includes 91% of higher education students. The college enrollment data is used to produce several reports.
College Fall enrollment reports track whether graduates enrolled in college in the fall after high school graduation. Reports are available for the graduating classes of 2004, 2005, and 2006.
College retention reports examine persistence in students’ first, second, and third years of college. A one-year retention report is available for the graduating classes of 2004. New retention reports for the graduating classes of 2004 and 2005 will be available in Fall 2007.
College graduation reports have not been released, but they will track college completion rates at intervals of three years (for Associate’s) and six years (for Bachelor’s) after high school graduation.

 | | | Chicago | Through a partnership with the Illinois Student Assistance Commission (ISAC), PSESD is able to track submission and completion of the FAFSA for current seniors with a valid Social Security number. In addition, ISAC provides information on student eligibility for federal and state-based grants. The student-level data is reported to the schools weekly starting in late March and continuing until the end of the school year. FAFSA data will be integrated into PSESD research reports in Fall 2007 | Student Assistance Commission | Chicago Public Schools Postsecondary Education and Student Development |
 | | | Chicago | The Senior Exit Questionnaire is a short online survey developed by PSESD that is administered to high school seniors in the May before high school graduation. | | | | College Opportunity Index compares number of 9th graders to number of graduates, A-G completers, CC enrollers, CSU enrollers, and UC enrollers. Data is available for every individual high school. Also, data is available on individual middle schools, including: access to highly qualified teachers and math/science enrollment.
Data comes from CPEC, CBEDS, and NCES and is unreliable because it requires college freshman to report high school origin. The data is more likely to be accurate for colleges close to home high school as staff at those colleges are most likely to assist students in retrieving correct high school codes. | | UC Accord |

 | | | California Postsecondary database | California Postsecondary Education Commission database includes higher education enrolment data for all public colleges and universities which can be queried by high school or district. Data includes A-G completeres, high school graduation, enrollement, transfer, first time enrollment, degrees awarded, and more. Reports can be run by high school, district, or legislative district.
Data is limited by the sources and data collection methods. CPEC receives first-time freshman data from CC, CSU, and UC systems which is gathered by freshman who may or may not know their correct high school code and may or may not use their correct social security number. Also, private colleges are not required to submit data. CSIS identifiers may help in the future, but no time soon. Also, there CC data set for Fresno City College has known innacuracies which the Chancelor's office is aware of and working on. | CPEC | CPEC |

 | | | | The Common Core of Data (CCD) is a program of the U.S. Department of Education's National Center for Education Statistics that annually collects fiscal and non-fiscal data about all public schools, public school districts and state education agencies in the United States. The data are supplied by state education agency officials and include information that describes schools and school districts, including name, address, and phone number; descriptive information about students and staff, including demographics; and fiscal data, including revenues and current expenditures. | NCES | http://nces.ed.gov/ccd/ |
 | | | | The National Center for Education Statistics' (NCES) Career/Technical Education Statistics (CTES) system derives data about career/technical education primarily from existing NCES surveys. Some of the most informative data in the CTES system are from high school transcript data. This method of obtaining data provides a more accurate and complete picture of participation in career/technical education than can be obtained by other means. The CTES system also uses data from NCES' surveys of postsecondary students, secondary and postsecondary faculty, adult learners, and from longitudinal surveys that track students through high school and into the labor market and/or postsecondary education.
The primary use of the CTES system is to report on the status of career/technical education. NCES has published several reports on career/technical education topics, including student participation, staff characteristics, and adult education for work. These publications include Vocational Education in the United States: Toward the Year 2000, the most recent NCES publication that synthesizes career/technical education data at the secondary and postsecondary levels. In addition, the CTES system is a primary data source for the Perkin's Act periodic, congressionally mandated evaluations of career/technical education. | NCES | http://nces.ed.gov/surveys/ctes/ |
