  • Christina Rogers presented the Real Game Series to the workgroup and discussed the new model for career planning that focuses on preparing for change, focusing on your skills, being a lifelong learner, knowing yourself, and accessing a network.  This is in contrast to the old paradigm where you go to school, then pick a career for the rest of your life.
  • The Real Game Series is a collection experiential programs to help students see the relevance of their classroom learning using a career development model where people learn skills to plan and manage their ever-changing careers throughout their lives. In short, The Real Game Series™ is helping students and adults become confident, self-reliant, and resilient in order for them to create great lives.
  • These programs are based on:
    • The National Career Development Guidelines career development competency framework;
    • The American School Counselors Association career development standards; and
    • Incorporate the SCANS employability standards sought be employers across America.
  • Long discussion on the best way to deliver/facilitate the Real Game Series...some examples include:
    • by teacher during school day
    • in zero period by counselor
    • after school by after school teacher
    • during summer school
    • during school day by community volunteer or business member
  • Part of the success for Real Game wil be to have a coordinated district-wide effort
  • Discussion of need to develop appropriate assessments to measure students' career readiness and then integrate these measures into school and district dashboards.

Discusion of draft recommendations for Engaging Programs workgroup.
