Teleconference with Microsoft re: MCS and Premiere Support

MCS in this context stands for 'Microsoft Certified Support'

On Call: Tom Talley, Amy A., Montgomery X.

Kurt: We would like to engage quickly, using a short term contract sub $15k.

Montgomery: Fresno County already has a Premiere Support contract; we may be able to piggyback on that contract for our immediate needs (Sharepoint, Exchange, A/D)

Short term needs:

.NET Development environments and development support, including recommendations for how to deploy Team Foundation and Visual Studio;

Training:

Art asked about how to obtain (or for us to create) end-user training

Scaling:

Advice, training, support to plan for scale-up of Sharepoint, Exchange, Active Directory

RAP: Rapid Assessment Plan (Premiere support function)

Microsoft would send an MCS to do an analysis of our current environment and provide guidance

Workflow: We need help with 'getting started' guidance with how to develop a workflow based on Infopath, Exchange, and SharePoint to implement the Personnel Requisition process for HR. See this site for a discussion area.

More information about Enterprise CAL

Here is another blurb that more clearly defines what features of Sharepoint, as we want to be able to use it, depend on the Enterprise CAL. My recommendation is that we have at least a few hundred Enterprise CALs for Central office and School site Admin (Principal, V.P.) users.

For each client computer or user accessing Office SharePoint Server 2007, a Standard CAL must be purchased. To access the enterprise features of Office SharePoint Server 2007, an additional Enterprise CAL is required.

Comparison of Enterprise CAL vs. standard CAL

This link explains the difference between the Sharepoint Standard CAL, and the Enterprise CAL. All four of the following features are of significant value to us from the business side:

Features

Report Center- Broadly share business data through personal or shared dashboards that include Excel controls and key performance indicators.
Business Data Catalog- Discover more information through the ability to index business data and access it through your portal and search.
Excel Services- Secure, manage and control spreadsheets through a web browser. Integrate Excel as a part of your business intelligence infrastructure.
Forms Server- Enable the storage and organization of rich, dynamic server-based forms to gather, share, reuse, and manage information.

This link explains the difference between the Standard Exchange CAL, and the Enterprise Exchange CAL. In order to scale Exchange to the District's size, as well as to be able to handle student e-mail accounts, the Enterprise CAL is required.

Aimee Ahklaghi proposes the following SKU for the Disricts site license for Microsoft software:

Windows Vista Enterprise (Upgrade)

Core Client Access License (CAL)
Windows CAL, Exchange CAL, SMS CAL, Sharepoint CAL
