Day 2: Multimedia Workshop Phase 1
Social Bookmarking:
Social bookmarking is an amazing web 2.0 tool which allows you to post your bookmarks on the web so that they are accessible anywhere, anytime, on any computer. The other benefit is the social aspect of it, where you can access other bookmarks of individuals with similar interests.
Assignment 1: Register an account with the delicious social bookmarking engine.

Assignment 2: Do a keyword search for your curricular subject and add at least one website to your delicious account.
Assignment 3: Add at least one colleague to your delicious network.
Organize Your Audio:
Using digital audio instructionally is a key skill that every teacher should practice. Digital audio can be quickly accessed to play for your audience and can be used in a variety of applications to enhance your digital lessons and student projects. The most common format for digital music is mp3, ergo we strongly recommend that you create/obtain mp3 files whenever possible. This will help you save the time and headache of having to convert your digital audio files.
Assignment 4: Configure iTunes to encode all audio as mp3. See tutorial here.
Assignment 5: Import audio from a CD.
Assignment 6: Add other digital audio to iTunes. Click 'File' and choose 'Add File/Folder to Library...'
Podcasting for Professional Development:
Listening to podcasts is an excellent way to develop professionally at your convenience. A podcast is an audio or video show containing regularly posted episodes on the Internet. The key feature that makes it a podcast is the ability to subscribe using RSS, which sends the newly posted episodes right to the application of your choice. In this course we will use iTunes to subscribe to podcasts. Take a few moments to listen to the following education-based podcasts:

· Speaking of History

Assignment 8: Subscribe to at least one podcast of your choice in the iTunes podcast directory. See tutorial here.
Assignment 9: Subscribe to at least one podcast of your choice in the EPN directory.
Podcasting in the Classroom:
Podcasts can be utilized in the classroom to provide a variety of information to students, parents, and site leadership. Their content can range from homework assignments to student video projects. Take a few moments to listen to the following classroom-based podcasts:

· Radio Willow Web
Assignment 10: Post a blog on your My Site. Here is your writing prompt:

Assignment 12: Record an mp3 audio file using Audacity. Here is your topic:
“Message to parents on first day of school”

You can use MixCraft to make original music for your audio recordings.
Working With Images:
The ability to work with digital images is an important Web 2.0 skill to have. Students and teachers alike use digital images in a variety of projects for a variety of purposes. You can take advantage of a powerful image editing tool built right into the Microsoft Office suite. It is called Microsoft Office Picture Manager. You can find it in the Microsoft Office program directory under All Programs.
