The Department of Student Health Services is a program within the Support Services Division of Fresno Unified School District. Student Health Services is responsible for implementation of the state-mandated health screening and health services programs which include: vision, hearing and scoliosis screening, Child Health and Disability Prevention Program (CHDP), tuberculosis testing and immunization supervision, health assessments and specialized physical health care services for Special Education. In addition, credentialed school nurses provide "diligent care" (Education Code 49426) to students with significant health conditions, provide and supervise the administration of first aid and medications, and provide assistance to families via social agency referrals.
Credentialed school nurses provide care and counseling to large numbers of students including making home visits, conferencing with parents and school personnel, and making medical, dental and mental health referrals.
Goal: Prevention of illness and disability and the early detection and correction of health problems so students can be academically successful.
